Where did the time go? It seemed like just yesterday we were able to touch the steering wheel without burning our hands! Love it or hate it, the heat is here and it’s not letting up any time soon. So how do you spend quality time with your family when you live in the desert? We decided to track down three cool, kid-friendly activities which can keep Arizona kids active and healthy this summer:

summer activity ideas in Phoenix for kids

1.  Pick your own produce. Are you looking to escape the supermarket for a day? Till mid-July, Tolmachoff Farms in Glendale will be allowing the public to come in and pick veggies like bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, and cucumbers! The main attraction though, is the tomatoes! The owner, Bill Tolmachoff claims his varieties of the red fruit are the best in the whole country! This is an excellent way to create lasting memories with your children and maybe even make vegetables appealing!

2. “Move It!” At the Children’s Museum in Phoenix. When you step into the children’s museum, you probably wish you could be a kid again–there’s so much to do and so many people having a good time! The new outdoor feature at the museum is an interactive park which was funded through the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and features all recycled materials. Kids can learn better coordination when they are challenged to climb, step, stomp, and use their creativity to solve problems.

3. Westgate Wednesdays. Every Wednesday till August 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Radio Disney will be taking over the Westgate shopping center to provide free family activities, music, and an incentive to get kids reading! The radio station teamed up with the R.E.A.D.S program to offer prizes for children for every four books they read! The party schedule is online for the rest of the summer, whether you’re looking forward to the Princess and the Pirate theme or the Supernatural party, it’s going to be a great time!

What are some of your favorite ways to beat the heat?
