Truth is, everybody loves a good snack. The problem, however, is that most snacks are terrible for your body and especially for your teeth. Snacks like candy bars, potato chips, or even one of your favorite chewy granola bars are packed with sugar and other chemicals that can severely harm your teeth and gums. That’s why we’ve put together a list of our favorite snacks that won’t damage your teeth!
5 Snack Foods That Won’t Junk Your Teeth
Popcorn: Most people tend to think of popcorn as greasy kernels that just end up getting stuck in your teeth. In reality, popcorn is packed with vitamins, minerals, and protein. Popcorn also helps your body grow bones, which in turn helps your teeth to get stronger. Just make sure you floss after eating so your dental hygienist doesn’t have to pick out the kernels at your next visit!
Apples: An apple a day keeps the doctor and dentist away! Apples are awesome snacks because they help to scrub away plaque and also help to naturally give you fresh breath!
Whole Wheat Bread: White bread has been known to contain added sugars that stick to your teeth causing decay. Try to go for more wheat-based foods like whole wheat bread, pasta, and oatmeal for a healthier choice. These foods may still stick to your teeth, but bacteria grows much slower in this case. Be sure to drink plenty of water to help rinse out any left-overs!
Celery: Because it’s made up of so much water, celery is a great snack for you teeth. Not only does celery help to rinse your mouth of any harmful bacteria, its stringy composition also acts as a natural flossing agent!
Low-fat cheeses: Cheese is a great snack for you teeth because it is rich in calcium which helps your teeth and bones stay healthy and strong. Avoid cheeses with added sugars for the best results.
